Fall 2016, Vogue Runway Review

February 11, 2016

We are thrilled with our review on Vogue Runway, which you can view in its entirety and see the rest of our Fall/Holiday 2016 collection [here]. Special thanks to Emily Farra for this article.

You could say space travel is trending, what with Hollywood’s recent obsession with films like Gravity, Interstellar, and The Martian, and NASA’s much-buzzed-about new photos of Pluto. Lots of fashion designers have cashed in on the kicky flares and A-line minis associated with the space-age ’60s, but for Fall, TSE’s design team took a more scientific approach and used the Apollo 11 mission as their jumping-off point. A mood board in the showroom was covered with photos of astronauts, space shuttles, and galaxies, and they studied Nicholas de Monchaux’s Spacesuit: Fashioning Apollo to learn the intricacies of creating the first space gear. The results were a testament to just how much you can do with knitwear these days; for example, the team reinterpreted the space suit’s ribbed padding as braided trim on a cardigan or soft poufs along the sleeves of a sweater. One standout ivory turtleneck was ribbed through the body and had a complex mix of open-weave stitches and loopy cords twisting down each arm. The palette was inspired by space, too—there was an icy “lunar” pink, lots of white and gray, and “earth green,” pulled from satellite photos of our planet.

Women looking for a more Courrèges-y spin on the ’60s will go for TSE’s cashmere cropped flares, which managed to be both incredibly fluffy and also structured enough for the office. They looked surprisingly cool with a navy bomber jacket sporting an oversize collar.
